Dry Rot

Dry rot is a fungal infection that causes wood to decay. Microscopic spores settle in timber which, with enough atmospheric moisture, grow and germinate, weakening the structure of the woodwork. Wood becomes dark and crumbly and even turns to powder if left unchecked.

Dry rot is actually is actually a slightly misleading name as the fungus behind dry rot requires around 30% moisture levels to grow. However once it's taken hold it will continue to spread even if moisture levels are reduced.

How we treat it

The key to eradicating rot is to seek out and eliminate the source of moisture feeding the growth. Fungus grows in all directions and in the case of dry rot it can penetrate right through walls.

All rotten wood must then be removed from the area that has been attacked. An area of up to two feet beyond the rot may also need to be removed, depending on the type of fungus. All remaining wood is treated with preservative and new pre-treated wood replaces any timber that has been removed.

We remove all affected wood and timber from your property to be disposed of safely and securely at our premises.
